Bang to Rights

Reading residents have been warned that they run the risk of arrest and imprisonment if they conduct their own bonfire night celebrations. Anyone burning a 'Guy' runs the risk of arrest under the Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006 according to local police chiefs.

Chief Inspector Shaun Virtue, Deputy Commander Reading Local Police Area told us: "Quite clearly anyone burning effigies of the Catholic Guido Fawkes is using threatening behaviour towards a religious minority and is guilty of the offence of stirring up religious hatred. Similarly, possession of explosive devices with intent to cause an explosion such as 'bangers' which have the sole purpose of scaring people and terrorising cats will see you banged up for 28 days without charge. You have been warned."
