Reading moved closer to achieving its' targets set out in the Nottingham Declaration at the Friends of the Earth Climate Change debate held in Caversham. With all parties vying for the title of the greenest party, Labour took a massive leap forward when Steve Waite, the lead councillor for the environment until next May, flounced out of the meeting after being heckled by audience members.

Self-proclaimed Government spokesman Martin Salter told the gathering: "I welcome the contribution made to the debate by my colleague and it shows just how committed the Labour Party is to this topic. The amount of hot air being produced by Labour speakers has just been halved and this reduction more than makes up for my private holiday flights. If only I was able to shut up for more than a few minutes we'd be the zero emissions party."
