News that the Government has sold the remaining one third share of its stake in AWE Management Limited, the company which runs the Atomic Weapons Establishment in Aldermaston at the low point in the stock market has been attacked by campaigners and supporters alike.

Those keen to see an independent British nuclear deterrent have been dismayed after discovering that it had been sold to an American company. One concerned man told us: "What do Americans know about great British fission chips?"
